I totally forgot that I’ve been using Grammarly Pro to copyedit the book. So, that’s another cost. That’s $64.47 every quarter. And, I’ve been using it for 4 months, so 2 quarters for a total of $129 so far.
Last week, the program started to push me to make my language more inclusive, suggesting things like replacing ‘councilman’ with ‘council person’-things like that. I don’t follow those recommendations. Usually just the grammar and punctuation stuff. It’s a pretty cool program, though.
The way it works is, when I have any writing thing open (most often Word) this little circle pops up to the side. When I click on it, the program gives me suggested edits.

I’m not going to hire an editor at all for this book. I’m just using Grammarly instead. Copyeditors cost a lot of money. I got quoted around $1,500 for one on reedsy. Whereas, as I mentioned above, I’ve only paid $129 so far for my Pro subscription. I’m hoping Grammarly can do a good enough job that the text feels professional. We’ll find out.
